Online Education RequirementsSucceeding and doing well in an Oklahoma education online does have a certain minimal level of ability just as with a traditional classroom education. Do not think that just because your classes are online, that they are automatically easier or any less-full and demanding than regular courses in school are. Technological RequirementsObviously, in order to successfully navigate an Oklahoma Education Online, you must have access to a computer that can connect to the Internet. Ideally this will be your own system which has reasonable capabilities and can take advantage of the latest technologies such as video streaming or podcasts and Adobe Flash or Microsoft Silverlight. Your Internet connection should be high speed such as cable or DSL if possible, so as to avoid long waits and slow downloads and the possible inability to access or submit certain files. Personal RequirementsJust as you may have noticed even in high school that school isn't for everyone, neither is an online education for everyone. It requires a different set of skills to succeed and do well online than what you need to do well in a traditional classroom requirement. For starters, since you will not be interacting personally with your professor on a regular basis, you should have good self-organizational skills. The ability to follow a schedule (syllabus), set reminders for yourself for when assignments are due, and self-motivate to get your work done and done on time since you will not have anyone in "the classroom" to prod you to it. In addition, generally 100% of all interaction and work exchange between yourself and the professor will be in the written form, so you should be able to express yourself well in the written form (or be willing to learn). Finally, success in an Oklahoma education online depends on your self-motivation. If your goal is education in pursuit of a degree, you should set a goal and work toward it as expediently as possible. It helps to break down your overall goal (like getting a degree), into smaller, more attainable ones (like getting a good, specific GPA for a semester). Your interaction with your classmates in an online education will be as detailed or limited as you want it to be but it too will mostly be online communication via discussion boards and chats, in the course of completing or discussing your schoolwork so don't expect much encouragement or help on a more personal level. |
